The Mexican red knee is the classic display tarantula, with bright orange leg bands. Females can live 25 to 30 years. It is often sold under the old name Brachypelma smithi.

Keep the substrate mostly dry, with a water dish always full. You can dampen one corner lightly. It grows slowly, so slings need patience.

It is listed on CITES Appendix II. Buy only captive-bred animals with papers from the seller.
