The bearded dragon is a calm, active lizard from dry Australian woodland. It is one of the best first lizards and lives 10 to 15 years.
It needs a basking spot of 38 to 42 °C, a cool side of 24 to 28 °C, and a strong UVB tube (T5 HO, 10 to 12%) across most of the enclosure. Without UVB it gets metabolic bone disease. Turn lights off at night.
Juveniles eat mostly insects every day. Adults eat mostly leafy greens and vegetables daily, with dusted insects 2 to 3 times a week. Dust insects with calcium.
